Sonia Stafford WOWs at Pro Beauty London!
We arrived in London late on the Saturday afternoon, we stayed at the Novotel so literally right outside. We decided to go have tea at an Italian along along with a few cocktails to calm my nerves, I was feeling very anxious as it was my first on the floor competition. 3 cocktails later and I was feeling a lot more relaxed and ready for the next day.
We woke up early the next morning and went down to breakfast before heading over to Excel ready for the 8:30 briefing and registration for “Salon Nail” competition. As I was setting up I could really feel the nerves rolling back in. Once the competition had started I seemed to ease a little until I heard Denise say we had 30 minutes remaining and I realised I wasn't as far as I wanted to be, my hands really began to shake, my model tried her best to calm me down. When the counting down began I knew I hadn't done my best work but what was done was done, my model went over to be judged and I left the competition arena and called my husband in a state of panic. He brought me back to earth and told me I was there for a reason and I could do it. He had every faith me.
Once briefing began for the afternoon competition “Pink & White Competition style” this was the one I was dreading, I was feeling ok, a little nervous but I knew what I had to do. My model kept an eye on the other competitors and let me know how I was doing progress wise, I seemed to be working faster than most which was encouraging. I kept my cool (on the surface anyway). Once time was called I only managed one coat of red polish and I could see my flaws but I was still happy as they were one of my best sets. The judges called us over and let us have a look at each other's work, I still remained happy, I knew there was better than mine but for my first floor Pink & White Competition, I survived and I was proud. We had a couple of hours to kill until the awards so decided to do a little shopping and grab some food. We headed off to the Live stage ready for the Award Ceremony and if I'm honest
I wasn't feeling hopeful. The first category which I'd entered to be announced was “Salon Nail” and I came 3rd!!! It was not expected at all but I got 3rd place!!! I was shocked and nervous to collect my medal.
Next category which is entered was “Photographic Classic” Denise called my name for 2nd!! Again I was so shocked, I literally leapt out of my seat and ran to the stage. I couldn't believe it. Next was “Pink & White Competition Style” the competition was so tough I didn't expect to come anywhere in this category, after collecting my scoresheet I found out I came 4th! Only 0.5 points off 3rd place. I was over the moon.
On the drive home you can imagine I was elated! I was also a little gutted as there was still “Photographic Art” to be announced on the Monday and I would miss it. I text/called everyone and told them all my great news. Since getting home I found out I also came 2nd Place in Photographic Art! Wow! Out if 4 Competitions I received two 2nd, one 3rd & one 4th (missing out on a place by ½ a point).
I am so proud of myself for getting through the weekend and coming home with 3 trophies. Thank you to all at Nsi & to Gemma Lambert for believing in me. I'll look forward to hopefully competing using Nsi again.
